- It is with deep sorrow, with his daughters and all the family we said goodbye to Ronny Philtjens (1981-2014), member of the Snow Racing Team, who died unexpectedly. May he find peace in the everlasting hunting grounds. It will remain in our minds forever. Good trail Ronny.

2013 Beloeil European Championships

With the arrival of the first participants on Wednesday morning, the crowds started to swell.
The organizers were practically ready with all the amenities to welcome the participants. The only downside was that, following the sudden snowfall and then the rain, the initially planned stake-out turned into a real quagmire. After evaluating this situation, it was decided to open the 3rd stake-out to the most affected participants as well as to their four-legged friends to allow them to get out of the water. For others, straw was provided.

These same weather conditions also affected the planned team of vets who got stuck somewhere along the way and were unable to arrive on time. This was obviously not good news for Laura and Olivier, the rest of the vet team present. However, thanks to the organizers, they were offered a support solution that ultimately allowed their control mission to run smoothly.

At the same time, members of the FISTC office as well as several participants recognized  part or all of the route. This resulted in a certain number of doubts about the proposed course, in particular on the technical part. Finally, after consultation between the FISTC and Siegfried Bomon, it was decided to make 2 small course corrections. Nonetheless, some people were still not very excited about the changes made and still had concerns about safety. It should be noted that the course was a perfect mix between a technical part, a hard part and speed tracks. In short, a real championship course, worthy of the elite of European mushers.

With a magnificent sound and light opening ceremony accentuated by the magic and mystery of the forest where the event takes place, the European Championships were finally opened on Thursday evening. The opening speeches first welcomed everyone to this magical forest of Beloeil, followed by a word of thanks to all those in charge who made this wonderful event possible, in particular Mr. Philippe Godart. The commissioners, the organizers and each country present with their mushers were presented.

After the first round, the pessimists had a different point of view. So most of the reviews on arrival were, pff ... harsh, beautiful and even SUPER several times. So almost everyone enjoyed the first ciurse. After the first round, the good organization as well as the proposed championship lead to thanks from the delegates and the FISTC office to all the participants for their behavior and sportsmanship while nourishing the hope to continue with this attitude to achieve a magnificent championship. . The evening of the first round ended with a delicious dinner.

The battle on the field is not a piece of cake and in a particular category the gap is even only six hundredths of a second.
The second night ended with a dance party for the real "Die Hards", others chose their beds, with a feeling of freshness, to start preparing for the battle of the last day.
Several categories where no one stood out were quite exciting and interesting to follow; which led to several classification changes during the last day of racing.

What to remember from the championship:

• Magnificent course, excellent site. Flat and regular pavements

• Small flaws during competition days were closely monitored and promptly corrected.

• Strong organization with rich experience

• Fantastic race direction under the leadership of Gilbert Germen, Franco Manato and their respective assistants.

• Magnificent agreement with a jovial and sporting atmosphere among the participants

• Very positive remarks concerning the health, the physical condition and the good preparation of the dogs from the veterinarians FISTC, Laura and Olivier

• Exciting fight in several categories.

• Excellent performance from the members of our Belgian team who were all well prepared and who were able to return home, with as a reward, several European titles

In summary, these eight gold medals and five silver medals represent a great achievement for our small Belgian country. In the ranking of countries we reached first place, followed by France; it is for the Belgian mushing a new page of the history which is written.

We also congratulate our other Belgian participants, some of whom were just outside the prices, for their commitment and their great personal performance.

In addition to the usual thanks for all the employees and the entire SNOW GIRLS TEAM team, we had the honor to welcome during the award ceremony the mayor of Beloeil, Mr. Vansaigele, his alderman for sports Mr. Christan Vandeput and thus thank them directly for their cooperation in the realization of this great event.

During these ceremonies the following people were appointed race director by the FISTC: Bernard Migot, André Vansteyvoort, Franky De Backer and Siegfried Bomon. Congratulations gentlemen and success.

Conclusion:

It was a great championship without major incident on a magnificent course which was finally greeted by everyone; which even led to the remark on the FISTC website that in all aspects it is one of their best championships.

Thank you SNOW GIRLS TEAM, your loved ones and all those who have contributed to this globally successful championship.

Mushing Awards FBMF-MBEL 2012-2013 at EVC, Vilvoorde:

In a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, after the summer break, many mushers gathered for the 2012 Belgian Championship awards ceremony, respectively, the Green Championship (MBEL) and the Snow Championship (FBMF)
For the 2013 Championship, the race calendar counting for the respective championships was jointly established by the two federations and presented to the mushers.
The evenings are concluded with a snack and a drink offered by the two federations.
