Freddy Guillaume has left us forever.
He never sought glory, only the quiet satisfaction of a job well done—and he achieved it, while fulfilling part of his dreams.
Through the events he created, from Brussels to Koksijde, his passion will endure.
Tribute to Freddy Guillaume,
President of MBEL and BRUM
To all,
As President of the Belgian Mushing Federation (FBMF), I share with you the sad news of the passing of my colleague Freddy Guillaume, a pillar of Belgian and international mushing, and pay tribute to him on behalf of the FBMF:
While I was born in the heart of Germany, you preceded me by seven days in Brussels—and you always maintained that lead in your ideas and innovations within the small world of sled dog sports, which brought us together and made us friends for 25 years.
Innovative and idealistic for and within our sport, you opened its doors to the outside world and to the world of mushing.
Though so much set us apart, our collaboration—you with your ideas, me with regulations—brought us closer and gave rise to a friendship that nothing could break.
We never counted the hours spent in the Animal Welfare Commission, in the cooperation between our two federations, and in organizing the Belgian Championships on snow, dryland, and Fed-Cup.
You realized part of your dreams by creating numerous events, among which I will always remember your race in Brussels at the Watermael-Boitsfort hippodrome in the Soignes Forest, and those in Koksijde.
You gave everything to this sport, which certainly did not always give back to you.
I knew you sought neither glory nor recognition, only the simple satisfaction of work accomplished—and you achieved it.
I say it loud and clear:
THANK YOU, FREDDY
